Online Boating Safety Course

Individuals looking to gain a boating license often turn to Boat U.S. Foundation’s free online boating safety course. Upon completion of this course, users are presented with a safe boating certificate endorsed by the National Association of State Boating Law Administrators (NASBLA). With an outdated, error-filled course, Boat U.S. Foundation was searching for a fully customized, state and NASBLA compliant course, capable of handling the needs of nationwide users.

The Boat U.S. Foundation course in-use at the time, was in desperate need of updating in both style and information. With non-existent functions for user tracking and profile data, the outdated program was full of errors which negatively impacted the functionality of the course and overwhelmed the Boat U.S. Foundation’s main office with complaints and requests. To address this slew of issues and bring the program up-to-date, a complex new course would need to be created, backed by fully customized programming and total system automation.

By building the course around a central storyline, users are invited to embark on a fully interactive adventure that is as fun as it is educational. Each “day” of the adventure provides valuable safety and operating lessons that are regularly reinforced by non-measured quiz questions, videos, 3D interactives, graphics, and more. Progress through each “day” is tracked for each user and only upon successful completion of the final test, can a user gain their certification document and/or membership card.

Successful customization in programming, combined with a strict adherence to state and NASBLA regulations, brought about the creation of a complex course set to launch in spring 2025. In addition to creating and validating the new course, the previous legacy course was cleaned of outdated program errors and made functional and current, with custom programming to streamline data with current client LMS.
